Men’s Swimming Continues To Impress At Terrapin Cup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – West Chester University closed out the second day of the Terrapin Cup with another outstanding performance against the rest of the Division I field at the University of Maryland’s Eppley Recreation Natatorium.

The Golden Rams’ 800-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Tommy Rhoads, Andrew Miller, Phil Letcavage and Jared Haley turned in the fastest time in that event since 2008 with a time of 6 minutes, 44.47 seconds. That time should put the foursome in excellent position to earn an NCAA bid in March. The Rams 800 free relay placed third behind North Carolina State and Maryland while topping William & Mary, Towson and two other foursomes from NC State and Maryland.

In all, West Chester’s men established 10 lifetime bests in the pool at Eppley Recreation Natatorium competing against Division I opposition. Rhoads was one of those improving his lifetime best in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.10, which was good for fourth place. Teammates Alex Corbett and Andrew Miller also posted lifetime bests in the 200 free. Corbett touched the wall in 1:46.00 while Miller touched out in 1:40.38.

West Chester also witnessed three lifetime bests in the 100 breaststroke with one of those times coming in the morning session. Bogdan Gregenyuk swam a 57.09 in the morning during his first collegiate meet. Alex Muraro (58.95) and Mike DiMarco (56.85) also hit their lifetime bests Friday evening. Meanwhile, Letcavage swam a 52.99 in the 100 backstroke, and Connor Murphy turned in a 53.88, to each establish new personal bests.

Evan DeaKyne clocked a time of 4:09.28 in the 400 individual medley for a new lifetime best. Alex Bauer’s 52.20 in the 100 butterfly was a lifetime best as well.

In addition to their lifetime bests on Friday, Rhoads, DeaKyne, Letcavage and Haley all hit lifetime bests on Thursday on the first day of competition.
