West Chester Women Down Clarion

Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa.  – Allison Hostetter led four players in double figures as host West Chester topped visiting Clarion, 102-68, in a PSAC women’s basketball contest Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.

West Chester (5-0, 3-0 PSAC) kept its record perfect on the season and improved to 3-0 at home. Clarion fell to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Hostetter added six steals, six assists and six rebounds to her game totals, which were eerily similar to her numbers against Slippery Rock exactly one week ago at Hollinger. In that game, the senior put up 19 points, six assists, six steals and five rebounds.

Fellow senior Shamyra Hammond poured in a career-high 16 points. She added four rebounds to her numbers. In all, West Chester witnessed 13 of its 14 players ink their name in the scoring column on Saturday. Paige Elliott scored 11 points, and Ambreelinne Ortman contributed 17 in the win. Ortman also added a team-high eight rebounds.

The Golden Rams broke things open with a 12-0 run over a three-minute span early in the first half that pushed a 10-8 advantage to 22-8. The Golden Eagles then went another three minutes without scoring when they trailed by only 10 (24-14) midway through the first half. That 13-0 spurt bulged the hosts’ lead to 37-14.

Head coach Deirdre Kane’s five-in and five-out substitution pattern was firing on all cylinders Saturday at Hollinger. The starting five posted 56 points while the reserves added 46. Ortman led all players with 20 minutes played.

West Chester’s 102 points were the most scored in a game since a 112-108 double-overtime loss to Clarion in 2000-01. It marked the 10th time overall in school history that the Golden Rams hit the century mark and the first time since a 101-95 win over Bloomsburg on Feb. 25, 2001 in the regular-season finale. It was the first time since 1999 that West Chester scored 100 points in a regulation game.

West Chester hosts Gannon on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hollinger Field House. The 2011 NCAA Division II Championship Field Hockey team will be honored at halftime of the men’s basketball game.
