EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro’s Kiara Brown (19 points) nailed a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to keep visiting West Chester at bay as host and ninth-ranked Edinboro went on to an 80-76 victory at McComb Fieldhouse Friday evening.
Allison Hostetter (15 points) knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:10 remaining to draw West Chester (5-2, 3-2 PSAC) within a bucket, and then hit a jumper with 10 seconds left to pull the visitors within a deuce again. However, Brown converted her free throws after the Golden Rams fouled her on the ensuing inbounds to put the hosts up by four.
In a game that witnessed 10 ties and seven lead changes, Edinboro (7-0, 5-0) once led by as many as 11 points midway through the first half. However, the majority of the ballgame never saw either side lead by more than six in a very tight PSAC tilt.
The Fighting Scots gained the lead for good with 12:16 remaining on a fastbreak layup from Renee` Brown (19 points). That capped a 12-7 run by the home team, and the Scots never trailed again.
West Chester was plagued by 25 turnovers and just 60-percent shooting from the foul line (15 of 25). However, the Golden Rams did place four players in double figures in the contest. Jillian Keefer led all Rams scorers with 16 points while Hostetter’s 15 helped out. Shamyra Hammond hit double figures for the second time in three games with a 12-point night, and Alex Lennon scored 10 points.
The Browns each had 19 points for the Fighting Scots, who remain undefeated on the season. It marked the second straight contest against an undefeated opponent for the Golden Rams.
West Chester continues its weekend crossover road trip with the Western Division with a 2 p.m. tip-off at Lock Haven on Saturday.
