SALEM, Va. – Second-ranked Limestone College used a 6-0 run at the end of the first half to pull away from sixth-ranked West Chester University en route to a 16-10 non-league women’s lacrosse victory in a steady rain at Spartan Field Thursday afternoon.
West Chester (1-1) outscored Limestone (6-0) by an 8-7 margin in the second half. However, the Golden Rams’ seven-goal deficit at the break was too much to overcome. Limestone remains perfect on the year with the early-season win.
The Saints held a slim 3-2 advantage in the early stages of the game when they ran off six straight tallies to jump out in front 9-2 by halftime.
Erin Oczkowski registered a hat trick for the Golden Rams while Claire Grimwood scored two goals and assisted on two others. Devon Lotkowski scored twice and assisted on another for a three-point afternoon as well.
Limestone’s Raquel Prager scored a game-high four goals, and Sarah Oor notched a hat trick for the Saints.
MacKenzie O’Keefe (1-1) suffered the loss in the cage for West Chester. She played the first half and allowed nine goals and made four saves. Freshman Jess Henderson relieved O’Keefe at halftime and made two saves while allowing seven goals.
Limestone goalkeeper Rachelle McLellan (6-0) made nine saves in going the distance in the cage.
West Chester returns home from its spring break trip after splitting its two games in Virginia. The Golden Rams will travel to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday afternoon for their first PSAC contest of the new year.
