Dramatic Comebacks Give West Chester Nine A Win In Opener

Box Score

AUBURNDALE, Fla.
– West Chester University erased a seven-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the game into extras, and then scored twice in the bottom of the 10th to pull out a wild 10-9 victory over Concordia-St. Paul in its 2011 season opener at the 3rd Annual Russmatt Central Florida Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 8-1 in their final at bats, the Golden Rams rallied to score seven times and send the game into extra innings. Concordia-St. Paul pushed across a run in the top of the 10th. However, West Chester rallied once again to score twice in the bottom half of the frame and steal the win.

Brandon Wolfe’s two-run double with one out in the bottom of the ninth, chased home Joe Wendle and Chris Pula with the tying runs. It was Wolfe’s second hit of the inning, after leading off the frame with a single.

Concordia-St. Paul scored a run in the top of the 10th on a pair of walks, a hit batsman and a balk, to go ahead 9-8. However, Anthony Clemens got the Rams out of a jam when the Golden Bears had runners on second and third and nobody out. Clemens retired the next three batters to keep the deficit at one.

West Chester made a winner out of Clemens (1-0) in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out, two-run rally. Wendle doubled to left-center, scoring Justin Lamborn, who had walked, and then scored on a walk-off single by Matt Baer
