West Chester Lands Two On All-South Region Squad

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – West Chester University senior midfielder Claire Grimwood and sophomore attacker Tori Dugan were each named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) All-South Region squad it was announced by that organization Sunday evening. Grimwood was a first team selection while Dugan was picked to the second team.

Grimwood, who was a second team pick a year ago, is making her second appearance on the all-region team. All first team All-South Region honorees are now eligible for the national All-America ballot. The 2011 IWLCA Division II All-America squad will be announced later this week.

Grimwood scored a team-high 54 goals this past spring and ranked second on the team with 67 points. She was a first team All-PSAC selection as well. The New Jersey native scooped up 19 ground balls, secured 24 draw controls and caused 11 turnovers. She concluded her career with 266 points, helping West Chester to a PSAC conference title and a national championship her freshman year in 2008. She scored 183 goals and was credited with 85 assists in 80 games over the past four years.

Dugan, a West Chester native, is making her first appearance on the all-region team after spending her first college season at Louisville. Dugan scored 46 goals and registered 59 points, placing third on the Golden Rams in scoring. She also took the majority of faceoffs in West Chester’s last four games of the season. She placed third on the squad in ground balls with 40 and led the team with 46 draw controls.

West Chester (16-5), finished the 2011 campaign ranked sixth in the national polls and reached the NCAA Division II national semifinals for the ninth time in the last 11 years. The Golden Rams lost their semifinal matchup with No. 3 Limestone on Saturday, 10-9.
