WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Freshman Cameron Scott scored his first career goal in the 57th minute off an assist from Chris Benner to lead host West Chester to the 1-0 upset of visiting NY Tech on a rainy Wednesday afternoon inside Farrell Stadium.
West Chester (2-4-2) handed NY Tech (6-1-1) its first setback of the season as a result of their stellar play Wednesday.
The Golden Rams outshot NYIT, 10-8, and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
"This was a team win and took all hands on deck," WCU head coach Kendall Walkes said. "This might just turn out to be a red-letter win for us. We will have to see. But, you can tell from the mood of the team that they are starting to feel good about themselves.
"We beat perhaps the best technical team we have played all year. They are very comfortable on the ball."
Scott hammered home a pass from Benner in the 57th minute, tucking the shot just past the outstretched arms of a diving Liam Waddy in goal and off the far post into the net. The freshman forward almost gave West Chester the lead early in the second half when he attempted to catch Waddy off his line and lofted a shot over his head. However, Waddy was able to punch the ball over the crossbar while falling backwards to keep the game scoreless.
A few minutes later, NY Tech hit the nearside 90 post/crossbar on a direct kick. It was NYIT's best opportunity of the evening.
