EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Ambreelinne Ortman scored a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough as visiting West Chester dropped a 60-58 decision to host East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
West Chester (14-4, 10-4 PSAC) saw its six-game winning streak on the season snapped while falling to East Stroudsburg (7-11, 4-10) for the first time in its last 10 matchups with the Warriors. With the loss, West Chester falls into a first-place tie with Bloomsburg (10-4) while Millersville (9-5) sits one game back of them both in the league standings.
The Golden Rams dug themselves a hole early, falling behind 25-9 with 3:41 left in the first half, largely because they were held scoreless for almost 10 minutes. During that dry spell, West Chester went 0-for-10 from the field, 0-for-2 from the foul line and committed six turnovers. A jumper by Serifat Junaid (4 points) ended the drought. However, West Chester still trailed, 32-13, at the break.
East Stroudsburg would take its largest lead of the game (21 points) with 12:13 remaining, before West Chester woke up and mounted a furious comeback. The Golden Rams scored 18 straight points over the next 4:39 to pull within three (46-43) with just under eight minutes to play. During that stretch, the Rams made 7 of 10 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers.
The Warriors answered by scoring the next five points to take a 51-43 lead with under six minutes to go. West Chester picked away at that deficit until Allison Hostetter (7 points) nailed a pair of foul shots to give the Rams a 54-53 lead – its first of the game since the 14:45 mark of the first half.
Hostetter would drain a 3-pointer with 20 seconds to play to knot things up at 58 apiece. However, ESU’s Fayola Moise grabbed an offensive rebound and converted the put-back with three ticks remaining to give the hosts the lead. Following a timeout, Hostetter’s desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.
The Warriors went 27-for-36 from the free throw line (75 percent) while the Rams struggled making 6 of 12 attempts (50 percent).
Hostetter added six assists and six rebounds to her seven points. Alexandra Lennon finished with her third double-double of the season, posting 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Moise finished with nine points and 14 rebounds for East Stroudsburg. Andrea Veres finished with a team-high 14 points – seven of those coming at the foul line.
West Chester returns home to Hollinger Field House next Wednesday for another PSAC tilt against visiting Mansfield. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
