SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Kayla Gatto scored her first two trys to lead West Chester University's women's rugby squad to a 25-5 victory over host Shippensburg Saturday afternoon.
Gatto registered her two trys 10 minutes apart in the second half that helped the Golden Rams (3-1-1) extend their lead to 20-5. Erin Gallagher added a try with five minutes remaining in the contest to close out the scoring.
Shelby Kimport's first career try and Cheryl Johnson's try in the first half opened up a 10-0 lead for West Chester. Shippensburg would add its lone score of the afternoon just before halftime. Johnson now has 10 trys and 50 points in the Rams' five matches this fall.
"We dominated much of the afternoon," WCU head coach Tony DeRemer said. "Ashley Purper and Nicole Benedetti did a good job of keeping things moving forward today. We played better defensively today and did a good job of tackling some of their stronger runners."
West Chester is off for the winter and will return in the spring when the Golden Rams resume their season.
