Three Golden Rams Named All-Region; Williams First Team Honoree

2012 All Super Region 1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Three West Chester Golden Rams were named All Super Region 1 it was announced Thursday afternoon. Sophomore LB Ronell Williams was a first-team selection while RB Rondell White and PK Shawn Leo were second-team picks.

The Daktronics, Inc., All-Super Region 1 squad is voted upon by the sports information directors in four different conferences (CIAA, Northeast 10, PSAC and WVIAC). The first team selections move on to the national ballot for a chance to become an All-American.

White concluded a spectacular junior campaign by setting the school’s single-season rushing record with 227 yards on the ground in the season finale at Clarion. The first team All-PSAC running back rushed for 1,548 yards and scored 11 rushing touchdowns on the season. He averaged 5.5 yards per carry and 140.7 yards per game. His performance against the Golden Eagles marked the fourth game of the season in which he reached 200 yards rushing. His other three 200-yard efforts came against a Division I-FCS opponent (Delaware) and a pair of nationally ranked Division II opponents (California [Pa.] and Bloomsburg).

White’s 18 touchdowns overall on the year tied him for sixth most in a single season in school history while his four 200-yard games in 2012 is a school record, along with his five career 200-yard efforts. He ranks fifth on the school’s all-time all-purpose yards list (4,561) and 11th on the school’s all-time rushing yards list (2,347). His 2,202 all-purpose yards is the third-most in a single season at West Chester.

Williams led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in tackles with 119 and ranked 14th in all Division II. His total was the most by a Golden Rams player since Lee Woodall registered 140 stops in 1993. Williams’ 80 assisted tackles rank as second-most in a single season at West Chester. Williams tied for the team lead in interceptions with three and registered seven tackles for a loss. The firs-team All-PSAC selection ranked fourth in the country in interceptions by a linebacker (3). Williams has 198 tackles in just two seasons work. The school record is 407 by Lateef Ferguson.

Leo has broken nearly every kicking record in the West Chester University record book during his first three years at the school. He converted 48 of 49 extra point opportunities and connected on 13 of 15 field goal attempts for 87 points on the year. Leo was an amazing 5 of 6 from 40-49 yards out. He missed his only attempt from over 50 yards – barely missing a 57-yarder in the season finale at Clarion. The kick was long enough, but did not hook back enough to get through the uprights, sailing just to the right of the upright. Leo tied his own school record in that game with four field goals. His 37 career field goals is already the school mark as is his 82.2 percent accuracy (37 of 45). He ranks third in extra points (119) and fifth in extra points attempted (123).
