CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – West Chester put four players in double figures, however, it was not enough to overcome Big Ten power Illinois in a men’s basketball exhibition inside Assembly Hall Sunday night. The host Illini defeated the Golden Rams, 75-66.
Jon Breeden led West Chester with 12 points. Corey Blake added 11, and Jaleel Mack also chipped in 11 off the bench for the Rams.
West Chester outscored Illinois, 46-31, on the strength of 50 percent shooting from the floor (14-for-28). Head coach Damien Blair got a look at 11 different players with 10 of those registering double digits in minutes played.
The Illini blocked eight shots and were better on the boards to the measure of 39-24 in the contest. Tracy Abrams led all scorers with 17 points for Illinois. Joseph Bertrand added 13, and Brandon Paul had 12. Sam McLaurin scored 11 for the hosts as well.
Attendance for the exhibition match was listed at 11,492.
West Chester has one more scrimmage scheduled before they open the season at home against Chestnut Hill inside Hollinger Field House on Nov. 14.
