WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Lexi Kegerise registered 19 kills to lead West Chester to a 3-2 victory over visiting Millersville in a PSAC East women’s volleyball contest inside Hollinger Field House Friday evening.
West Chester (18-15, 8-10 PSAC) clinched third place in the league standings, heading into Saturday’s regular-season finale against Shippensburg. That match will preview the quarterfinal round of the upcoming PSAC Tournament as the Raiders have sewn up second place and will host the Golden Rams next Tuesday when the playoffs get under way. Millersville (13-17, 6-12) will finish fourth and travel to Lock Haven in the quarterfinals next Tuesday.
West Chester won by scores of 20-25, 25-15, 25-15, 23-25 and 15-12.
With the fifth and deciding match tied at 10-all, West Chester won four of the next five points to pull in front, 14-11. Kegerise then finished off the Marauders with her 19th kill of the match off an assist from Mandy Flynn. It was Kegerise’s 1,297th career kill. She is poised to eclipse 1,300 kills in her career on Saturday against Shippensburg.
Tori Hutchinson led West Chester with 25 assists. It was the second-highest total for her on the season, after her 27 at Kutztown last week. Mandy Flynn contributed a season-best 23 assists as well. Dana Markol had 19 digs while Kegerise finished off a nice double-double with 13 digs.
West Chester hit .283 to Millersville’s .171. The Golden Rams hit .417 in the second set and .458 in the fifth and deciding set.
The Golden Rams host Shippensburg on Saturday, which is Senior Day. The Golden Rams will pay tribute to their graduating seniors in a brief pre-game ceremony.
