CAPE COD, Mass. - A pair of West Chester University women's gymnasts were honored by the ECAC in the loop's weekly awards. Freshman Stephanie Schuler was named the ECAC Division II rookie of the week while Melissa Prisco was given the coaches' choice award.
Prisco had a great meet last Sunday at Southern Connecticut State by scoring solid marks in all three events – vault, 9.3; bars, 9.325 and beam, 9.0 – she competed, helping the Golden Rams to a second-place showing (185.375) in a triangular meet at ECAC rival Southern Connecticut State University. The coaching staff is proud of her accomplishments this year evidenced by her hard work at practice and consistent performance in meets.
Schuler continued her successful season at last weekend’s Southern Connecticut State University tri-meet by placing first on the bars (9.6), first in the all-around (37.875), second on the vault (9.575) and fourth on the beam (9.55). She also contributed a 9.15 in the floor exercise. West Chester defeated Springfield, 185.375 to 181.875.
West Chester returns home to Sturzebecker HSC on Friday night for its Senior Night quad meet with Rhode Island College, Ursinus and Wilson College. Meet begins at 6 p.m. Senior festivities will take place AFTER the meet is completed.
