CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Jamie Dolan scored a career-high eight goals as seventh-ranked West Chester University dispatched homestanding Queen’s University of Charlotte, 18-11, in a non-conference women’s lacrosse match Sunday afternoon.
Dolan registered a natural hat trick with three consecutive unanswered goals within a four-minute span of the first half that erased a 3-2 deficit and put the Golden Rams (2-0) in the lead for good, 5-3, over Queen’s (4-3).
Queen’s Brittany Philips pulled the hosts to within a goal with five minutes left in the half. However, Theresa Giunta and Erin Oczkowski closed out the half with back-to-back goals to push the visitor’s lead to 7-4 by the break.
Queen’s came out strong in the second half, scoring three of the first four goals of the frame to pull within a single tally once again (8-7). That included a pair of goals from Brittany Barnwell 22 seconds apart. That is when MacKenzie O’Keefe and Dolan scored for the Golden Rams to re-establish a three-goal lead (10-7) with 20 minutes left in the game.
West Chester ended the game on a 7-2 run that eventually put the contest out of reach. Lauren Glassey scored three of her four tallies in the game during that decisive stretch.
Oczkowski finished with a hat trick for the Rams, while Giunta, Brittany Long and O’Keefe each scored a goal as well.
Jess Henderson (2-0) registered four saves in the cage to pick up her second victory of the season.
West Chester concludes its southern swing on Thursday with a non-league contest at Lees-McRae.
