WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University’s women's lacrosse squad posted 11 goals in the first half and followed up with eight in the second on its way to a 19-6 win over East Stroudsburg University in the PSAC opener for both schools.
West Chester (3-0, 1-0 PSAC) picked up its third win in as many games, rattling off five consecutive goals after East Stroudsburg (1-3, 0-1) tallied first.
Tori Dugan, who had eight points (5G, 3A) for the Golden Rams, scored off a free position five minutes into the game to give West Chester a 2-1 lead that it would not relinquish. Erin Oczkowski scored five goals on the afternoon, and Lauren Glassey provided four assists to go along with one goal. Nicole Pyle and Jamie Dolan each added hat tricks for the Golden Rams as well. Stacey Pellechia and Julianne Jochym each scored for the Rams while Jacki Patterson added an assist.
Sarah Ginn scored four goals for East Stroudsburg. However, the Warriors fell behind by eight heading into halftime (11-3) and could not recover.
More impressively, the Golden Rams allowed just six goals while holding a decided advantage in draw controls (17-10) and picking up 18 ground balls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jess Henderson came up big with eight saves on 14 shots. ESU’s Amanda Simms played the first 44 minutes, allowing 15 goals and stopping seven shots. Katie Zollo was credited with one save in the final 16 minutes while surrendering four goals.
West Chester hits the road this weekend for a pair of PSAC contests at Slippery Rock on Saturday and at Bloomsburg on Sunday.
