Women's Rugby Drops MARFU Quarterfinal At Virginia

Box Score

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.
- West Chester University's women's rugby squad dropped a 10-0 decision to host Virginia in a Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union (MARFU) quarterfinal round contest Saturday.

West Chester (6-3-1) is knocked out of the MARFU playoffs with the loss. The Golden Rams controlled play for much of the first half, but could not get a score.

"UVA played very good defense, especially in close by their tryline," WCU head coach Tony DeRemer said. "They seemed to gain some momentum from the penalty kick right before halftime, and it was a tale of two halves really."

Virginia converted a penalty kick in the 40th minute to take a 3-0 lead into the break. The Cavaliers scored the only try of the match in the 54th minute to increase their lead to 10-0.

West Chester missed an opportunity to get on the board when the Golden Rams missed a penalty kick from right in front of the uprights in the 70th minute.
