McGlade Leads Women’s Rugby To Win At Rutgers, 26-12

Box Score

PISCATAWAY, N.J.
– Anna McGlade scored 21 of the team’s 26 points as visiting West Chester University handed host Rutgers its first loss of the season, 26-12, in cardiac fashion at the Busch Club Sports Field on a windy and cold Sunday afternoon.

West Chester (6-1-1) ran out to a 19-0 lead with the wind at its back in the first half. However, Rutgers (7-1) closed that gap to 19-12 when the wind and the momentum shifted back towards the home team.

McGlade scored a try and made good on the conversion in the final two minutes of play to seal the victory for the Golden Rams.

“It was a game of two halves,” WCU head coach Tony DeRemer commented. “We had a little wind in the first half and dominated play. However, play turned around the second half and Rutgers took more control of the match. We seemed to lose a little focus in the second half and the momentum swung Rutgers way.”

MaryKay Heaton opened the match with a try in the sixth minute that McGlade converted. McGlade scored the first of her three trys four minutes later and then picked up her second try of the match at just about the midway point of the first half.

West Chester hosts Princeton on Friday night at 7:30 under the lights of Farrell Stadium.
