PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Tori Dugan scored four goals and Jacki Patterson posted four points (3 goals, 1 assist) as seventh-ranked West Chester defeated host Holy Family, 16-4, in its 2012 season opener at Tiger Field on a sunny, but cold, Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (1-0) ran out to a 10-0 lead by halftime and never looked back against Holy Family (0-2).
Dugan had her hat trick by halftime, and Jamie Dolan and Erin Oczkowski also scored a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes. The Tigers' Stephanie McNesby finally got the home team on the board early in the second half. However, Patterson tallied a pair and Brittany Long scored two more as the Golden Rams pushed their lead to 14-1.
Holy Family scored three straight goals to close to 14-4. However, Theresa Giunta and Dugan scored in the final seven minutes of the game to close out the scoring.
Sophomore Jess Henderson (1-0) made four saves in the win. Holy Family's Melissa Jenkins (0-2) made 13 saves.
West Chester will head south for spring break next week to take on Queen's (N.C.) on March 11 and Lees McRae on March 15.
