WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Cheryl Johnson scored three trys and finished with 15 points while teammate Anna McGlade kicked a pair of penalty kicks and a conversion after her own try, finishing with 13 points as West Chester played to a 28-28 tie with Harrisburg Saturday.
West Chester (6-3-2) held an 11-7 edge at halftime thanks to Johnson's first try and McGlade's two penalty kicks. However, the Golden Rams were victimized by alum Michelle Kirk in the second half, who ran the ball in three times to spark Harrisburg's comeback.
"They were a lot bigger than us," WCU head coach Tony DeRemer said. "But, I was proud of the way we hung in there in the second half, particularly on defense.
"Kirk was one of our leading scorers on some of our best teams. She is tough to defend and wears you down. But, we did a pretty good job on her, I thought"
Johnson added a pair of trys in the second half to keep the Golden Rams close. The score see-sawed back-and-forth for the entire match.
Johnson finished with 15 points and McGlade had 18 for all of West Chester's scoring. Kirk accounted for 15 of Harrisburg's points.
West Chester concludes its 2011-12 campaign next Saturday at home against Philadelphia's club team at 1 p.m.
