MIAMI, Ohio – West Chester University’s national runner-up women’s lacrosse squad landed four players on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association All-America squads it was announced by that organization recently.
Juniors
Tori Dugan (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) and
Theresa Giunta (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) were each first-team selections while seniors
Andrea Smith (Florence, N.J./Holy Cross) and
Erin Oczkowski (Warrington, Pa./Abington) were second team picks.
Dugan capped a spectacular campaign with five goals in the national championship loss to C.W. Post. She finished the year with 54 goals and 94 points while setting a school record with 134 draw controls. Dugan’s 94 points were the most in a single season by a Golden Rams player since Steph Kienle set the single-season Division II record with 143 points in 2008. She ranked fifth in the country in draw controls, seventh in points and 10th in assists (40). Dugan was also named first-team All-PSAC, as well as the conference’s player of the year, along with taking home first team All-South Region honors earlier this month.
Giunta was part of a defense that ranked ninth in the country, allowing fewer than 10 goals per game to its opponents. She scored 17 goals and collected four assists for a total of 21 points from her defensive midfield position. The local product ranked second on the team in both ground balls (45) and draw controls (57). She was also a first team All-PSAC and first team All-South Region selection earlier this month.
Oczkowski, both a second team All-South pick and second team All-PSAC selection, finished fourth on the team in scoring with 61 points, but was second on the Golden Rams in goals scored with 51. The senior midfielder ranked 45th in the country in goals per game (2.78) and 35th in the country in goals scored. She ran the offense from out in front of the cage, often times taking the pass from teammate Dugan and finishing right on the doorstep. Her one-timers became the Warrington, Pa., native’s signature trademark.
Smith was perhaps the Golden Rams’ top defender in the back. She led the Golden Rams in caused turnovers in each of the last two seasons and was often times assigned to the opposition’s top offensive threat. Smith helped West Chester’s defense rank ninth in the country on defense. The senior also scored a goal and assisted on another.
