WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Kendall Benovy scored a career-high 18 points, and senior Alexandra Lennon grabbed a season-best 14 rebounds as host West Chester topped visiting Mercyhurst, 73-55, in a PSAC women’s basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House Friday night.
West Chester (8-4, 5-3 PSAC) upped its winning streak to three games while Mercyhurst (3-9, 3-5) has now dropped six of its last seven.
Benovy shot 7-for-9 in the paint to power her career effort Friday. Lennon scored nine points making four out of her nine shots. She also posted four blocked shots and tied her season high with four steals.
Freshman Dallas Ely had a total of nine points on the night. Fellow classmate Jasmen Clark scored a total of eight points while draining a pair of 3-pointers. Sophomore Serifat Junaid played a stellar defensive game with a career high four steals.
The Golden Rams were bolstered by 50 of the 73 points coming from the bench. West Chester pulled away early in the second half by opening up a 22-point lead and later led by 25 in a 73-55 win over Mercyhurst.
Lennon scored six of her nine points in the first half, adding two steals with an impressive nine rebounds before the break. Senior Paige Elliott also had five points by halftime and finished with seven points for the game.
The West Chester Women’s Basketball team returns to Hollinger Field House to take on No. 6 Gannon University Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. in its final Western Division crossover of the PSAC schedule.
