HARRISONBURG, Va. - Nicole Benedetti registered a personal-best four trys, and visiting West Chester survived a second-half surge from host James Madison to come away with a 25-22 women's rugby victory Sunday afternoon.
West Chester (2-1) jumped out to a 10-0 lead by halftime and increased that margin to 15 with Benedetti's second try of the match early in the second half. However, JMU outscored West Chester, 22-10, the rest of the way to come storming back and put a scare into the Golden Rams.
James Madison scored a pair of trys to pull within three (15-12) midway through the second half. Benedetti then broke through for her third try of the match to push the Rams' advantage to 20-12. Her final try of the match would push the lead to 13 (25-12). From there, West Chester held off JMU, who scored two more trys to get back to within three.
Walston's 25-meter run put West Chester on top early, 5-0. The Golden Rams never did trail in the contest.
West Chester will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. at University of Pittsburgh.
