CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Brittany Sicinski scored a career high 27 points, but it was not enough as West Chester saw its five game winning streak come to an end with an 85-79 defeat Tuesday night at California, Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover action.
The Golden Rams (6-3) trailed 40-36 at the half with Sicinski's 11 points leading the way. The Vulcans (3-6) out shot West Chester 53% to 38% from the field and held the lead for most of the half.
West Chester was able to cut the lead to two with under 16 minutes to play, but Cal scored 11 straight and the lead ballooned to 13 four minutes later.
The Golden Rams kept slicing the deficit only to see Cal respond.
West Chester trailed by 10 with four minutes remaining when
Dallas Ely and Sicinski hit back to back three's to make it a four point contest, Kaitlynn Fritz made a steal and a layup, for the Vulcans, before Sicinski connected from downtown to make it a 70-67 game with 2:47 remaining.
After two Irina Kujolz free-throws pushed the lead back to five, Sicinski cut the lead to three again with 2:38 left, but Fratz and Kujolz nailed back to back triples to lead an 8-0 run and build the lead back to 11 and put the game away.
Fratz shot seven of nine from the field including four of five from long range, and Kujolz came off the bench to hit five her seven shots to lead the vulcans with 21 each.
Dallas Ely had 20, the fourth consecutive game she has cracked the 20 point plateau,
Kendall Benovy finished with 17 and a team leading nine rebounds, and Sicinski added six rebounds and six assists to her career high 27.
West Chester travels to Slippery Rock on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff with the Rock, before finally returning home for a battle with Edinboro on Saturday, in the last game before the holiday break.
