Golden Rams Hang on in 83-81 Victory at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.- Dallas Ely scored 25 points and Brittany Sicinski added 17 and 11 rebounds to lead five Golden Rams in double figures in West Chester's 83-81 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over host Kutztown at Keystone Arena Saturday afternoon.
 
The Golden Rams (6-2, 4-0 PSAC- East), held a 47-40 lead at the half, after Ely was fouled while connecting on a three- point shot, and sinking the free-throw with three seconds left in the half. She led the way with 15 points on 6-8 shooting, Serifat Junaid came off the bench with nine big points.  The Golden Bears (4-3, 2-1 PSAC - East ),  shot 9-20 from beyond the arc, were paced by Jenna Altomare who made 6-8 from three-point land for a team high 23.
 
West Chester built the lead to 13 with at 55-42 less than four minutes into the second half, and was comfortably in front by a dozen with 59-47 a minute later. The Golden Bears then went on a 22-6 run to take a 69-65 advantage with under eight minutes to play.
 
The Golden Rams, keyed by two Kendall Benovy baskets and a pair of steals by Brittany Sicinski that led to layups, scored 10 of the next 11 points to surge ahead 75-70 with 5:20 remaining.
 
Altomare nailed a three to bring Kutztown to within two, then Ely scored four straight in a 6-0 run capped by Jasmen Clark's two free throws with 2:36 to play to give West Chester an 81-73 lead.
 
Altomare made it a three point game with a triple with eight seconds left and was fouled with one tick left on the clock, but could only make one of her three attempts for the final score.
 
Kendall Benovy chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds for West Chester, Anna Kuntz aided the cause with 10 points and eight boards of her own, and Serifat Junaid came off the bench to score 11 and grab six rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams out rebounded the Golden Bears 23-14 off the offensive glass with Sicinski leading the way with seven, and held a 31-16 advantage in second chance points.
 
 
West Chester is off for finals week on campus and returns to action, with a PSAC west trip to California, Pa on Dec. 17, then take on Slippery Rock the following day. The next home game is Saturday Dec. 21 against Edinboro, in non-conference action.
