WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Carl Johnson scored 18 points, leading four players in double figures, as host West Chester topped visiting Bloomsburg, 96-75, Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.
West Chester (17-6, 15-4 PSAC) jumped out in front by as many as 22 points in the first half and would eventually crack open a 36-point advantage over Bloomsburg (7-16, 5-14) in the second half when the Huskies were down two starters due to injuries.
Bloomsburg’s Zach Sheetz injured his right leg in the first minute of the game and did not return. With 15:26 left to play in the contest, Dontahe Jordan, last season’s PSAC East player of the year, went down hard and injured his left shoulder. Both Huskies were taken to Chester County Hospital.
Bloomsburg ended the game on an 18-2 run. West Chester held a 36-point advantage with five minutes remaining when the Huskies closed the gap at the end.
West Chester wasted no time in jumping on Bloomsburg early in the contest. The hosts held a 25-9 lead at the second media timeout of the first half, and the Rams then continued on a 13-7 wave to open up a 22-point lead (38-16) with 7:31 before halftime.
When the second half opened, the Golden Rams went on a 17-7 run and were in control, 70-41, with 13:35 still to play in the game.
Corey Blake finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Jaleel Mack and Shannon Givens each added 11. Jon Breeden posted six assists.
West Chester returns to Hollinger Field House on Wednesday evening for its final regular-season home game against Shippensburg at 8 p.m. The Raiders defeated nationally ranked East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
