MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – West Chester shot just 20 percent after halftime as host Millersville ran away from the Golden Rams en route to a 76-58 PSAC East women’s basketball victory inside Pucillo Gym Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (13-8, 10-7 PSAC East) was led by Ambreelinne Ortman’s 16 points while Millersville (15-6, 12-5) was led by Senada Mehmedovic’s 24 and Aurielle Mosley’s 23.
West Chester entered the break with just a three-point deficit, 37-34. However, the Golden Rams were outscored 39-24 after halftime. The Rams, who rank third in the PSAC in 3-point shooting, were 1-for-11 from beyond the arc in the second half and sank just nine baskets in all over the final 20 minutes.
Alexandra Lennon scored six points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked five shots. She now has 281 career blocked shots to her credit as she continues her quest to become just the second women in PSAC history to record 300 blocks in a career.
Jasmen Clark reached double figures as well with 12 points. However, the Marauders put four players in double figures with two posting 20-point afternoons. That was just too much to overcome.
The loss dropped West Chester into fourth place in the PSAC East standings, two games behind Shippensburg, Millersville and Bloomsburg, who are all tied for first place. The Rams split the season series with Millersville and have home games against both Bloomsburg and Shippensburg upcoming in the following week. WCU defeated Bloomsburg on the road the first time around while falling at Shippensburg. The Raiders are currently on a seven-game winning streak, which has skyrocketed them to the top of the East.
West Chester concludes its current three-game road trip with a journey to Kutztown on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Golden Bears. Kutztown is one-half game behind West Chester after its contest at East Stroudsburg on Saturday was postponed until Sunday due to Nor’easter Nemo, which dumped heavy snow on the northern part of the state Friday night into Saturday morning.
