BELMONT, N.C. – Lauren Glassey posted seven points, and freshman Haley Nelson scored four times, to lead second-ranked West Chester University to a 25-6 non-league women’s lacrosse victory over host Belmont Abbey Sunday afternoon.
West Chester (2-0) got seven points from Glassey, who scored a game-high five goals and added two assists. Nelson came off the bench to score four goals for the Golden Rams. Jamie Dolan and Brittany Long also posted hat tricks for West Chester.
The Rams scored the first seven goals of the game and held a 10-1 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half. Dolan and Glassey each scored twice during the first seven-goal run. Glassey netted the final two goals that pushed the lead to 10-1. In fact, Glassey scored all five of her goals in the first 19 minutes of the game.
West Chester controlled much of the non-league tilt, winning 23 of 33 draws and outshooting Belmont Abbey, 45-14.
Jess Henderson (2-0) made five saves, playing the first 40 minutes of the contest. Kelsey Sward came on and went the rest of the way. She did not make a save.
Theresa Giunta potted two goals while Mary Gallagher, Erin Eckert, Tori Dugan, Gina Eberwein, Nicole Pyle, Leanna Brewer, Caroline Kuchinsky and Stacey Pellechia each scored once. Sarah Dennison collected one assist.
The Golden Rams finish up their southern swing on spring break Tuesday at 2 p.m. against Lenoir-Rhyne.
