Rams Score Two Goals In Final 10 Minutes Of 3-1 Win At Lock Haven

Box Score

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Dan Venuto headed in a corner kick from Roberto Silva to break the tie, and Conor Malarney added an insurance tally just over a minute later as West Chester captured its second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference  win, 3-1, at Lock Haven Wednesday.

West Chester (2-2-1, 2-1-0 PSAC) evened its record on the year while Lock Haven (2-2-0, 1-2-0) also fell to an even mark. Malarney finished with two of West Chester's three goals in the contest.

The Golden Rams opened the scoring nine minutes into the contest when Malarney battled for a loose ball with Bald Eagles' goalkeeper, Brad Sumski. The keepers' clearing attempt ricocheted off Malarney and into the net for his fourth tally of the season.

The hosts tied the game on an Asher Klahold goal in the 53rd minute. It was Lock Haven's lone attempt on goal during the game.

The Golden Rams put the game away in the final 10 minutes of the tilt after Malarney, who was injured in the first half and did not start the second half, entered the action. He took a shot that was knocked out of play for a corner kick in the 70th minute. Silva sent the corner to the far post where 6-4 defensive captain Dan Venuto climbed above the opposition and headed the ball into the corner, for his first marker of the year, to give the Golden Rams a 2-1 advantage.

Alex Caplan then sent a ball forward that split the backs and sent Malarney in on the goal one minute later. The senior salted away the contest with his second of the game and sixth of the season.

Sumski was busy making four saves in net for Lock Haven. Ryan Shultz recoded his second straight victory for the Golden Rams.

West Chester returns home, looking for a third consecutive win, Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 12 p.m.
