Julia O'Brien led the West Chester women's volleyball squad to a 3-0 victory over Caldwell College in the opener with 14 kills, and the Golden Rams defeated Southern New Hampshire 3-1in the nightcap, to complete a flawless opening weekend at the Kutztown Classic.
West Chester (3-0) received double digit kills from three players in defeating previously undefeated Southern New Hampshire University (2-1), by scores of (25-16), (24-26), (25-17), (25-19).
Marina Sharkey led the way with 11, Freshman
Paige Thommes added 10, and O'Brien also posted 10 kills. Rookie
Analee Halbert had 42 assists and classmate
Callie Karcjir playing the libero position accounted for 23 digs.
In the opener Thommes had 11 kills and
Dana Markol led the way with 14 digs, as West Chester was victorious (25-20) in the first set closing on a 6 point run. Halbert ended a late run in the second with an ace, (25-18), and O'Brien sent down a pass from Halbert to end the match (25-21).
The Golden Rams host Ram Fest this weekend to opening with a 3:00 PM contest on Friday against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, followed by a 5:00 PM match with Glenville State College. They will play twice more on Saturday.
