Women's Tennis Shuts Out Saint Thomas Aquinas, 9-0

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- West Chester University's women's tennis squad picked up its second win in as many days, opening its home dual match schedule with a 9-0 shutout over visiting Saint Thomas Aquinas College Wednesday afternoon on South Campus.

West Chester (2-0) swept both the doubles and singles competition to get the win. Claire Uhle's (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) win at No. 1 singles was, once again, the deciding factor. However, none of the Golden Rams' six singles participants dropped a set. They were all straight-set winners. In fact, only one of those sets saw a STAC player take more than one game within the set.

Besides Uhle's 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles, Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at second singles, and Abriana Nolan (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale), who moved up one spot due to a late scratch, was a 6-1, 6-1 winner. Alyssa Rees (Morgantown, W.Va./University) dropped her opponent, 6-0, 6-1 while Steph Cifarelli (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at fifth singles. Sammy Markey (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) made her collegiate debut with a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles.

Uhle and Shaak teamed up for their second 8-0 win in as many days at first doubles. Nicole Fahringer (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional), nursing an injury, teamed up with Rees for a 9-7 edging, and Cifarelli teamed with Amalie Hartman (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) for an 8-3 win at third doubles.

This weekend, West Chester travels to Edinboro, Pa., to take on Edinboro and Mercyhurst.
