No. 8 Bloomsburg Defeats No. 7 West Chester, 41-10

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Eighth-ranked Bloomsburg rushed for 454 yards and forced six turnovers in a 41-10 win over seventh-ranked West Chester University in a battle of unbeatens in the PSAC at Redman Stadium Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester (7-1, 6-1 PSAC) saw its seven-game winning streak to open the season come to an end while Bloomsburg (8-0, 7-0) took over sole possession of first place with the win between the last two unbeaten schools in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
 
The Golden Rams never got on track all day as the Huskies took away everything that West Chester was trying to do offensively while forcing five turnovers. Bloomsburg dominated all aspects of the game throughout the 60 minutes of play. The Huskies scored 24 points off their six turnovers.
 
Bloomsburg's Eddie Mateo rushed or a career-high 269 yards and four touchdowns as Bloomsburg jumped out to a 24-3 lead by halftime. Bloomsburg QB Tim Kelly threw a TD pass on the Huskies' second drive of the second half that made it a 31-3 advantage, and PK Braden Drexler kicked a 22-yard field goal with 2:39 left in the third quarter to push the lead to 34-3.
 
Sean McCartney (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) threw a TD pass to Tim Brown (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) for West Chester's first touchdown that did not come until very late in the third quarter. McCartney finished 22-for-42 and 170 yards, but threw a career-high four interceptions. He had thrown just three INTs all season coming into Saturday's contest. Three of his four picks were stolen by Bloomsburg safety Jarrin Toomey.
 
Eddie Elliott (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) rushed for 64 yards while Brandon Monk (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) rushed for 62. Brown caught four passes for 53 yards and the Rams' lone touchdown.
 
Bloomsburg's Dai'Shon Munger rushed for 143 yards as the Huskies had two running backs rush for over 100 yards in the game.
 
NOTES: West Chester's 41-10 loss to Bloomsburg ended a seven-game winning streak to open the season … the 31-point victory was the largest for Bloomsburg in the history of the series, which now stands at 47-26 in favor of West Chester … Bloomsburg's 553 yards of total offense and its 454 rushing yards are both the most West Chester has given up this year … the 41 points allowed is also the most West Chester's defense has yielded this season … Bloomsburg's win also marks the second straight year in which the Huskies have defeated the Golden Rams in the regular season when the Rams entered the game ranked in the Top 10 in the country.
