HAMDEN, Conn. - Fifth-ranked Quinnipiac jumped out early and rode the momentum of a couple of defensive stands in the first half en route to a 36-17 victory over visiting sixth-ranked West Chester University in an NCAA Women's Rugby varsity contest Saturday afternoon in Connecticut.
West Chester (5-1) entered the game outscoring its opponents, 400-10. However, Quinnipiac (5-3) registered the first two trys of the game held the Golden Rams scoreless until 10 minutes remained before halftime. Erin Brosius finally got the visitors on the board with a short run off the left side that was not converted.
In the second half, West Chester put together back-to-back scores by Sophia Schwab, which was converted, and Olivia Grassi, which was not, to draw within 21-17 of the Bobcats. However, the hosts scored two more times in the next 10 minutes to put the game away.
West Chester will be off until the spring season.
