Men’s Swimming Takes First Place in Four of Five Events; Lengthens Lead On Day Two

YORK, Pa. – Victor Polyakov and David McCormick each picked up individual championships while a pair of relays repeated their conference titles to lead West Chester University's men's swimming team on Day Two of the 56th Annual PSAC Swimming Championships at the York YMCA Friday.
 
West Chester has 512 points after two days at the championships. Indiana, Pa., has 246 points and is currently second. Bloomsburg is right on the Crimson Hawks' heels with 245.5 points.
 
Polyakov won his second PSAC title in as many days with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle. He touched the wall in 1 minute, 37.36 seconds, which was 0.32 seconds off an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Teammates Bradley Strathmeyer and Phil Letcavage were right behind Polyakov. Strathmeyer touched in 1:38.44 while Letcavage clocked a 1:40.07. Both of them registered NCAA 'B' times as well. Tommy McMahon finished seventh in 1:42.49.
 
In all, West Chester claimed four of the top eight spots in both the 200 free and the 100 butterfly while taking three of the top eight in the 400 individual medley. McCormick won the 400 IM with a time of 3:54.57. Mike Oliver was third in 4:00.07, and defending champion of the event, Evan DeaKyne finished fourth in 4:01.23.
 
Luke Maguire finished second in the 100 fly, posting a time of 48.92 in the finals. Michael O'Brien was right behind him in third (50.18), and Dan Sokman was fourth (50.25). Ryan Stahley tied for fifth in 50.68 seconds.
 
Stahley was a member of the 200 free relay that won first place. He anchored a foursome that also consisted of Sokman, Maguire and McMahon. They registered a time of 1:22.72. Maguire also played a role on the 400 medley relay winning team, swimming with O'Brien, Bogdan Grebenyuk and Polyakov. Their winning time was 3:18.22.
 
West Chester continues its quest for a 16th straight conference championship on Saturday with prelims in the morning at 10 a.m. and finals in a few more events at 6 p.m.
