Diez Finishes 8th in 500-Yard Freestyle; Demesy 10th

EVANSVILLE, IN – Freshman Marti Rosell Diez (L'Albiol, Spain) swam the 500-yard freestyle in 4 minute, 25.32 seconds and placed eighth in the 'A' Final during the evening session of the 2026 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving National Championships Friday. Senior Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) was 10th overall after placing second in the 'B' Final.
 
Diez, who earned an honorable mention All-America certificate in the 1000 free on Wednesday, brought home an All-America citation on Friday by finishing in the top 8. Demesy picked up an honorable mention certificate by finishing second in the 'B' Final. Both Golden Rams swam a personal best time at nationals. Demesy's 4:21.71 Friday night was his best clocking in the 500 in his final go-around in that event.
 
The fifth and final day of competition opens up tomorrow morning with timed finals in the 1650 free where Diez will make his final swim at nationals. Demesy will be back in the pool for his final collegiate swim in one of the evening heats.
