CLEARWATER, Fla. – Matt McAllister struck out nine and allowed just three hits in seven innings of work to lead West Chester to a 12-0 shutout over Kentucky Wesleyan in the team's spring break opener Friday night at Jack Russell Stadium.
Â
West Chester (4-1) opened up a close-knit ballgame with one run in the fifth, four in the sixth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth against a weary Kentucky Wesleyan (6-5) squad playing their final game of their spring break week. The Golden Rams' 3-4-5 hitters were a combined 6-for-9 with nine RBI in the win.
Â
Sophomore first baseman, Justin Roman, went 3-for-3 with four RBI, including a bases clearing triple with two outs in the seventh. He also hit one of four sacrifice flies by the Golden Rams on the day in the sixth inning. Tyler Coleman had two of the four sac flies and finished with three RBI. Chris Pula was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, including a two-run double down the left field line in the sixth.
Â
However, the night belonged to McAllister (1-1). The right-hander worked out of trouble in the first inning when he left the bases loaded. But, McAllister did not allow more than one base runner the rest of the way and allowed only one Panthers' base runner to reach second base. He retired his last five batters.
