CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sixth-ranked West Chester University opened up its 2014 campaign with a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over host and 12th-ranked Queens (N.C.) in a non-league women's lacrosse match Sunday afternoon.

Olivia Martin scored three goals over a four-minute span midway through the second half to help West Chester (1-0) pull even with Queens (5-2). Trailing 4-2, Martin netted two goals 14 seconds apart to quickly tie the game and give the Golden Rams momentum.

Hannah Cowan then scored with just over five minutes remaining in the game to give the Rams their first lead of the game. However, Queens' Abigail Paulus scored her third goal of the game with 2:13 left to knot things up once more.

Cowan notched the game-winner with 45 ticks left in the contest off an assist from Dina Cifelli (1 goal, 1 assist).

Jess Henderson (1-0) picked up the win in the cage for West Chester. She made 10 saves in the defensive struggled between nationally ranked opponents. Queens held the Golden Rams scoreless for the first 32:18 of the tilt. However, the hosts only mustered two goals themselves in the first half, keeping West Chester in the game.

West Chester takes on Newberry College Monday afternoon in its second game in as many days during the team's southern trip on spring break.
