Box Score MANSFIELD, Pa. – Five different Golden Rams scored as second ranked West Chester field hockey shutout host Mansfield 5-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Saturday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Field.
Sophomore
Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J. / Glassboro) opened the scoring, with her 13th goal of the season, midway through the first half to give West Chester (13-3, 4-3 PSAC) a 1-0 lead.
Dayle Paustian (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) made it a 2-0 game when she found the back of the net in the 24th minute.
Alexis Versak (Limerick, Pa. / Spring-Ford) gave the Golden Rams a three goal lead less than three minutes later as she netted her fifth of the season and West Chester went to the break with a 3-0 advantage.
Seniors'
Alayna Brown (Telford, Pa. / Souderton) and
Kristina Scherrer (Enola, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) scored in the second half to provide the final margin.
Brianna Magner (Egg Harbor, N.J. / Egg Harbor Township) made one save in goal for West Chester to record her first career shutout. Gabrielle Spatz registered 15 saves in goal for Mansfield (0-14, 0-8 PSAC).
The Golden Rams return to action on Sunday when it travels to Collegeville, Pa. to take on Ursinus College in the Snell Cup at 1 p.m.
Last year, Ursinus ended a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory to even the Snell Cup series at 16-16-4. West Chester still holds a 30-26-12 mark in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1920s.
