West Chester Captures First Win Of The Season Against Central State

Box Score West Chester, Pa. – Sr., G Dallas Ely (Montrose, Pa. / Montrose) scored a team-high 18 points, to go with nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals to lift the Golden Rams to a 80-67 victory over Central State University for their first win of the season inside Hollinger Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Rams (1-1) rebounded from tough loss to Lincoln and improved by shooting over 50 percent from the field in the second half compared to a 26 percent in the first. Central State (0-2) was unable to hang on and allowed WCU to make a run late.

They made 20-of-29 from the free throw line, which helped them work their way back into the game. They went on a 6-0 run to close out the first quarter and led by a score of 19-13. Then the Marauders came right out of the second quarter dropping an 11-0 run to go up 26-19 after being down six to start. The Golden Rams would go into halftime down for the second-straight game in a row (33-28).

WCU found guard Brittany Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) out of the break for back-to-back layups in transtion to be down by one. Sophomore Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) converted from downtown to take the lead back for the Golden Rams 51-49 with 1:28 to go in the third quarter. Eventually, the team shutdown Central State with a 25-7 run for their largest lead of the game (18) inside the four minute mark.

Soph., G Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) added 13 points, six assists, and three steals in the victory. Seniors Sicinski, Jasmen Clarke (Temple, Pa. / Oley Valley), and Kendall Benovy (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) all contributed 12 points to the double-digit win as well.

Marauders' Jordyn Bond recorded a game-high 22 points, to go with eight rebounds. Ghameerah McCullers contributed 14 points going 5-for-11 on the day.

West Chester will now get set to open conference play against Lock Haven on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. inside Hollinger Fieldhouse.
