Box Score 2 BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – West Chester slammed four home runs in game two, and made a four-run sixth inning in game one hold up, as the Golden Rams swept a PSAC East baseball doubleheader from Bloomsburg by scores of 4-3 and 22-3 at Litwhiler Field Monday.
Â
West Chester (10-7, 8-4 PSAC East) moved one game behind East-leading Millersville in the league standings and took the season series from Bloomsburg (6-6, 5-3).
Â
Bill Ford hit a two-run homer, and
Justin Roman hit a two-run single, as West Chester scored all four of its runs in the sixth inning to erase a 3-0 deficit in game one. Ford's blast broke up a no-hit bid by Huskies' starter Ryuta Amaike (0-1). Three straight singles, and a runner getting thrown out at the plate left runners at second and third for the Rams when Roman singled through the left side to plate the two winning runs.
Â
Andrew Gernert (2-1) went the distance on the mound for West Chester. He surrendered nine hits, but just one earned run, while walking four and striking out seven.
Drew Diehl finished game one with a pair of hits.
Â
An 11-run third inning highlighted game two's 22-3 score. The first six batters in the third reached base safely, Roman smashed a two-run homer and a two-run double to account for four RBI, and Bloomsburg pitchers walked four and hit two batters. When the dust cleared, West Chester had 11 runs on six hits and owned a 14-3 advantage.
Â
Tyler Coleman went 5-for-5 with a walk, reaching base safely all six times to the plate. He scored three times. The starting 3-4-5 hitters in West Chester's order were a combined 9-for-12 with 12 runs scored and 10 RBI.
Matt Petrizzi, who pitched a complete game, also went 4-for-5 with five runs scored and a pair of RBI at the plate. He allowed three runs, only two of them earned, on six hits while walking two and striking out eight.
Â
Anthony Salomone went 3-for-4 with three RBI. He also walked and was hit by a pitch.
Dylan Tice, Petrizzi, Roman and
Robert Knox all homered in the win.
Â
Ironically, West Chester's 22 runs scored were not the most the Golden Rams have painted on the scoreboard this year. West Chester topped Mansfield, 23-9, down in Florida while on spring break. However, the 11-run third inning is the most prolific so far this spring.
Â
West Chester returns to Serpico Stadium Tuesday afternoon for one 9-inning game against non-league foe Philadelphia University. That tilt begins at 3 p.m.
