Box Score Hickory, N.C. - Fourteenth-ranked West Chester University opened its 2015 slate Saturday afternoon with a 14-13 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in a non-league women's lacrosse match.
West Chester (1-0) trailed 9-7 early in the second half when a three-goal run put the Golden Rams on top. From there, things see-sawed back and forth with West Chester coming out on top by a single tally. Lenoir-Rhyne (2-3) saw its two-game winning streak halted with the loss.
Hannah Cowan (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) posted five goals while
Erin Eckert (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) added four to lead West Chester's offensive attack.
Erin Gallagher (Narbeth, Pa./Lower Merion) added a pair of goals as well. Dina Cifelli (Robinsville, N.J./Notre Dame) registered four points with one goal and three assists. Eckert added an assist to her four-goal day.
Freshman goalkeeper
Paige Mitros (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) earned the start in goal, making 10 saves in her collegiate debut.
West Chester opens its home slate at Vonnie Gros Field next Friday afternoon against Lindenwood University.
