No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Runs Win Streak To Five With Win Over IUP

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Ashley Pyle scored four goals and added one assist while Dina Cifelli scored three goals to lead 16th-ranked West Chester to a 14-8 victory over visiting Indiana (Pa.) in a PSAC women's lacrosse match played under picturesque conditions at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (10-4, 8-3 PSAC) ran its win streak to five straight while climbing into third place in the PSAC standings and clinching a playoff berth in the process. IUP (9-6, 7-3) has lost two of its last three and fallen into a tie for fourth place with Seton Hill.

With West Chester leading 5-2 in the final minute of the first half, IUP scored with 43 seconds left on the first-half clock to pull within two. However, Pyle netted her third goal of the game with four seconds remaining, and then Cifelli scored nine seconds into the second half to give the Golden Rams a four-goal lead, and the Crimson Hawks would not get any closer.

The Hawks made one more run at the Rams, getting within four (12-8) for the final time with six minutes remaining in the game. But, West Chester did an excellent job of managing the final five minutes and held possession of the ball for the majority of the contest.

Sarah Gebre registered two goals while Sarah Dennison scored once and added a pair of assists for a three-point day on Senior Day. Caroline Kuchinsky also scored twice in the win.

Paige Mitros (3-1) started the game in goal and made two saves in the first half. Merrilee VIguers played the second half and stopped three shots.

West Chester steps out of conference play next Wednesday to welcome No. 10 LIU-Post to Vonnie Gros Field for a 4 p.m. tilt. The Golden Rams then travel to East Stroudsburg next Saturday for the regular-season finale. The PSAC Tournament begins Tuesday, April 28 with the No. 3 and 4 seeds hosting the No. 6 and 5 seeds, respectively, in the first round.
