Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - No. 9 Mercyhurst scored on a free position attempt with no time remaining in overtime to outlast No. 13 West Chester, 10-9, in a PSAC semifinal at Charlotte Smith Field Friday afternoon.
Trailing 7-2 at halftime, West Chester (13-5) mounted a furious comeback bid in the second half and outscored Mercyhurst by the same score to force overtime. Lakers' goalkeeper Rebecca Muscella made two big saves in the extra session, including one on a free position, to keep the game tied. That is when Mercyhurst took advantage of a free position attempt with four seconds remaining to score the game-winner and advance to the championship game.
The Golden Rams scored six unanswered tallies to pull within one at 7-6 with 18:37 remaining. The Lakers got the first of their two second-half goals to take an 8-6 lead. However, West Chester scored two straight of its own to pull even at 8-8 with eight minutes left. The two sides then traded goals the rest of the way with Dina Cifelli's tally with 4:46 left knotting things up at 9-9 and forcing overtime.
Cifelli finished with five points (2 goals, 3 assists) while Hannah Cowan registered a hat trick. Senior Sarah Dennison had a pair of goals in her final college game.
