West Chester Men Settle For Tie Against NY Tech, 3-3

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – In the team's home opener, West Chester University's men's soccer squad played to a 3-3 double-overtime tie against visiting NY Tech in a non-league match at Rockwell Field Wednesday afternoon.
 
West Chester (1-3-1) squandered a three-goal lead in the final eight minutes of regulation and then played 20 minutes of scoreless overtime against NY Tech (2-2-1).
 
NY Tech scored a pair of goal 1:29 apart to begin the comeback bid with 7:50 left on the clock. Alejandro Del Cura netted both goals, knocking in a rebound and then scoring an unassisted tally shortly thereafter to cut the deficit to one.
 
The equalizer came with just 11 seconds left in the second half as Ion Barbarin scored off an assist from Alberto Salcedo.
 
West Chester had built its 3-0 lead with one goal in the first half and two more in the second. Matt Fioravanti (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) took a thru ball from Andrew Slater (Hanover, Pa./South West) went in on the Bears' keeper all alone, pushing the ball past the charging keeper and kicking it into an open net in the 32nd minute.
 
Miguel Ross (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) made an impressive run from the midfield line, beating three chasing defenders and kicking one past the helpless keeper on a breakaway. Alex Caplan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) played the ball up to Ross for the assist.
 
Max Adarkwah (Accra Ghana/Phelps School [Pa.]) went in on a 2-on-1 break, but finished things off himself with 10 minutes left in the game to give the Golden Rams what seemed to be an insurmountable advantage.
 
James Wood (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) made his first start in goal and was credited with four saves in 110 minutes of action. NY Tech's Jonathan Rico made five saves, three in the first half, to keep his squad in the match.
 
West Chester will host California (Pa.) on Saturday in a pivotal PSAC contest.
