Tim Brown Waiver Approved By NCAA; WCU Hosts Seton Hill Saturday

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University All-America tight end, Tim Brown, was officially cleared to participate in the 2015 football season by the NCAA it was announced earlier this week.

Brown will suit up and is expected to play on Saturday against PSAC West rival Seton Hill at John A. Farrell Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and can be heard live on WCHE 1520 AM and online at www.wche1520.com. Brown, who is in his senior year at the school, had used up his 10 full-time semesters and, therefore, ran out of eligibility. West Chester University appealed to the NCAA for an extension citing a clerical error on the school's part. That initial appeal was denied, as was an appeal to the Division II Review Board. However, this past week, the University asked the NCAA to reconsider and was able to show more clear evidence of the error. The NCAA, then, accepted the University's new evidence, and approved the waiver submitted by West Chester University on Brown's behalf.
 
Brown had played just 23 games in his college career before this fall – all with West Chester University. However, it was his 2014 fall campaign that turned the heads of professional scouts. He led the Golden Rams with 53 catches for 1,059 yards and 17 touchdowns. His numbers for yards and TD catches are both school records for a tight end in a single season and invariably drew comparisons to former WCU tight end Joe Senser, who spent five years in the NFL – all with the Minnesota Vikings. Brown led Division II in all three categories among fellow tight ends a year ago. He caught 73 passes for 1,488 yards and 22 touchdowns during his college career.
