No. 22 West Chester Falls To No. 9 Lenoir-Rhyne, 41-28

Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa. - A.J. DePietro (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) caught a pair of touchdown passes, but visiting Lenoir-Rhyne scored touchdowns on its first three possessions of the second half to lead the No. 9-ranked Bears to a 41-28 victory over No. 22 West Chester at John A. Farrell Stadium Thursday night in a game that was delayed 1 hour, 54 minutes due to lightning and rain.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored touchdowns on three consecutive possessions to open up the third quarter, following the nearly 120-minute weather delay, that staked the visitors to a commanding 41-7 lead while eating up nearly nine minutes of the third-quarter play clock. Quarterback Evin Sims scored all three TDs during the decisive run. The Bears triple option offense chewed up 442 yards on the ground altogether.

West Chester (0-1) committed four costly turnovers in the game with three interceptions all leading to touchdowns for Lenoir-Rhyne (1-0). The Golden Rams mounted a comeback of sorts in the fourth quarter, scoring three TDs of its own. But, it was too late to come all the way back. DePietro caught TD passes of 9 and 45 yards while Brandon Monk (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) scampered in from four yards out.

Sophomore QB Pat Moriarty (Harriton, Pa./Gladwyne) finished 18-for-35 for 231 yards and two TDs. Alec Werner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) came on in the fourth quarter and was 3-for-4 with a TD toss to DePietro.

Monk finished with 68 yards rushing on 12 carries. Eddie Elliott (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) led West Chester with 75 yards receiving.

Ralph Reeves (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) led the Golden Rams with 10 tackles, including a pair of tackles for a loss and one sack. Andrew Cohen (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) had seven stops, including one sack.

West Chester travels to Erie, Pa., next Saturday for a 12 p.m. start against PSAC West foe Mercyhurst.
