No. 17 West Chester Hangs On Late For 64-59 Victory Over Shippensburg

Box Score

West Chester, Pa. – Fr., guard Malik Jackson (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood) scored a team-high 18 points to lead 17th-ranked West Chester past Shippensburg, 64-59, in the final minutes inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams (16-3, 12-3 PSAC) were coming off a loss to Kutztown and rebounded in a huge way, outrebounding the Raiders, 48-38, for the game. Shippensburg (12-6, 9-5 PSAC) took a five-point lead at the 7:35 mark in the first half, before West Chester answered with an 8-0 run to go back in front (29-27) and eventually lead by one going into the half.

Forward Thomas White (Chester, Pa./Penn Wood) impacted the game down in the paint, going for 11 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season, while making two important blocks toward the end.

Senior guard Avery Brown (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) also poured in 11 points, including a crucial straight away 3-pointer from the top of the cylinder, knotting up the score at 57-57 with five minutes left in regulation. Tyrell Long (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) added 10 points as well in the victory.

The Raiders' duo of Jay Hardy and Justin McCarthur led their team with 11 points each, while both shot 4-for-8 from the field.

After scoring a game-high 31 points against WCU at home earlier in December, Abe Masseley was held to single-digits (8) from the floor as the Golden Rams' defense limited him to only three points in the second half.

West Chester is back on the court on Wednesday as they travel to take on Bloomsburg at 7:30 p.m.
