Sophie Rathmell (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at fifth singles, giving West Chester's women's tennis squad the deciding point in a 5-4 victory over host Post University in a non-league match at the Edgewood Bath & Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (3-0) held a 2-1 lead after doubles play. That is when
Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County),
Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple-Newtown) and Rathmell all came up winners in singles, giving the Golden Rams a 5-2 lead at the time. Post won the final two sets to make the match closer than it appeared.
Shaak rebounded at second singles, after dropping the first set, to win her match 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Power was a straight-set winner, 6-3, 6-4.
