West Chester Downs Bloomsburg, 27-7

Box Score

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Tyler Karpinski (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) caught for over 100 yards for the second week in a row as visiting West Chester came 16 seconds shy of shutting out Bloomsburg on the road in a 27-7 PSAC East showdown at Redman Stadium Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (4-3, 3-1 PSAC) sits in a second place tie with Shippensburg following the win. Bloomsburg (4-3, 2-2) falls into a tie for fourth place with the loss.

Running back Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) ran for a 9-yard touchdown, and Marcus Sydnor (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) caught an 18-yard TD strike from Pat Moriarty (Harriton, Pa./Gladwyne) in the second quarter to help the Golden Rams take a 14-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

With West Chester's defense limiting Bloomsburg's offense to just 54 yards of total offense through the first 30 minutes of play, including zero yards passing, that 14-point lead was all the Golden Rams needed. Elder added a 2-yard run in the fourth, before Paul Dooley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside-Chestnut Hill) registered his first career rushing touchdown with just under three minutes to play, giving the visitors a 27-0 lead.

The Rams were bidding for their first shutout of the Huskies since 1982, and first on the road since 1963, when Bloomsburg's QB Duffy Gilhool connected with Chad Hoffman on a 16-yard TD pass with 16 ticks left on the game clock. The final margin of 27-7 marked the first time since 1992 that West Chester held Bloomsburg to single digits (34-2).

Elder finished with 86 yards rushing on 18 carries and the two touchdowns. Eerin Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) led the Golden Rams in rushing with 97 yards on 11 carries. Karpinski caught four balls for 105 yards.

Moriarty finished 11-for-18 for 197 yards and one TD. He did not throw an interception.

West Chester's defense held Bloomsburg's Lawrence Elliott to just 55 yards rushing on 14 attempts. The Huskies managed just 246 yards of total offense the entire game.

The Golden Rams return home next Saturday for Homecoming Weekend when they welcome cross-county rival Cheyney to Farrell Stadium for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
