Box Score MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior
Dallas Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) set the school's all-time scoring record with a team-high 27 points, but West Chester could not complete a comeback attempt as the Golden Rams fell to Millersville, 79-70, inside Pucillo Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Ely tied the game up with her fifth 3-pointer of the game at 60-60. Still, the Golden Rams were unable to capitalize as Millersville responded on a 19-10 run to close out the fourth quarter for its seventh-straight win. Despite the loss, West Chester still clinched the PSAC Eastern Division regular-season title and the No. 1 seed out of the East in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. The Golden Rams will receive a first-round bye and host a second-round game at home on Tuesday, March 1.
The Golden Rams (19-6, 16-5 PSAC) saw their 11-game winning streak snapped coming out the gate down by 16 heading into halftime. Millersville (17-7, 13-7 PSAC) continued its tear against the PSAC East since losing to WCU, 74-59, on the road back on Jan. 20. Since that loss, the Marauders have defeated every team (besides Mansfield) during that stretch in the PSAC East, inlcuding wins over the top two teams in the division (West Chester, Shippensburg) to remain in the third slot of the divison standings.
Brittany Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) finished with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a team-high five steals in the loss. Guard
Jasmen Clark (Temple, Pa./Olney) added 12 points to round the double-digit scorers for the game.
WCU found themselves down by one three consecutive times, but every time Millersville always had an answer to eventually go on a 16-5 run in the first quarter to go up by 12 to begin the game and never look back from that point forward.
Marauders' Yasmin Cooper recorded a game-high 20 points, 15 in the first half, and eight rebounds to give her team a comfortable lead heading into the second half of play. Teammate Celeste Robinson registered a 19-point performance, adding five rebounds and two blocks in the low post. Shelby Reimer scored 16 points, 12 in the first half to keep the pressure on the West Chester offense to catch up.
West Chester try's to rebound in its season finale at Kutztown on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
