No. 10 West Chester Dispatches Phila U, 17-3

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Ashley Pyle (Springfield, Pa./Garnet Valley) scored three goals and added three assists while Hannah Cowan (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) posted a hat trick and a pair of assists to lead No. 10 West Chester to a 17-3 victory over visiting Philadelphia University Saturday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (2-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead by halftime and never looked back. Philadelphia University (1-1) potted its three goals in the second half, suffering its first defeat of the spring.

Pyle had a hand in three of the team's first four goals, which all came during the first 2:26 of the contest. She would go on to add her other two goals before the half was out.

Dina Cifelli (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame) scored twice and assisted on two more to help with the scoring. Sami Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) also tallied twice, both in the first half. Elizabeth Cassidy (West Chester, Pa./East) scored two goals as well, one in each half. In all, 10 different Golden Rams scored and 12 different players registered a point in the win.

Paige Mitros (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) recorded four saves in the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. Philadelphia's Maria Matteis (1-1) was credited with 13 saves in the loss.

West Chester will play an exhibition game againt Meiji University from Japan on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Vonnie Gros Field, before taking on Holy Family on Tuesday.
